Information

Text in French

Born in France in 1799 into a large and modest family, young Basile Moreau had the opportunity to pursue his studies. Ordained a priest at the age of 22, he was then appointed professor at the philosophy seminary of Le Mans, then at the Grand Séminaire of the same place. His availability, his great generosity and his dynamism led him to set up a group of priests for preaching and teaching and to take charge of an institute of teaching brothers. From these two initiatives was born the Congregation of Holy Cross composed of priests and brothers, to which was later added a community of nuns.
